However, The American Academy of Pediatrics reports that teachers say children with advanced social skills are more likely to have a successful kindergarten experience.

Academic Skills:
Starting early to prepare your child does not mean attempting to teach them kindergarten skills in preschool or at home. It just means ensuring that they have mastered these preschool skills.

Fine Motor Skills:
Over the next year, these skills will become second nature to your child. For now, you just need to make sure your child is familiar with the hand/eye coordination and spatial reasoning skills that are most useful.

What Teachers Expect:
• Share, take turns and listen
• Sit quietly in a circle for 10 - 15 minutes
• Use words to communicate
• Use the toilet by yourself
• Dress yourself (zip, button, fasten clothes and shoes)
• Follow simple directions
• Recite and recognize alphabet letters
• Know basic colors, shapes and numbers
• Use positional words (over, under, up, down)
• Print your first name
• Recite your address and phone number
• Properly hold a pencil
• Hold and use a pair of scissors
• Know how to use crayons and glue
• Assemble a 10-12 piece puzzle

What Parents Can Do:
Introduce your child to new social experiences by joining a play group, attending story hour at the local library and encouraging interaction with new friends. Keep a list of social activities that excite and frustrate your child and share this important information with the kindergarten teacher.

* Tessy & Tab offers fabulous kits to get little ones ready for school. The Kindergarten Confidence Kit is made for those venturing on to bigger things. The Confidence Kit gives an in depth preview of what children and parents can expect from the upcoming year through a Parent's Guide, writing practice sheets, a poster, and a DVD featuring a real day at Kindergarten. Perfect to ease fear &/or prepare for a new school experience.

Showcase: Meringue Boutique
Meringue Boutique has made a name for themselves by carrying all of the women’s clothing lines worn by moms everywhere: designer denim from Seven for all Mankind and True Religion; tops and tees from Splendid, Michael Stars, Three Dots, etc.; and undergarments from favorites like Spanx, Yummie Tummie, and Hanky Panky.

However, Meringue is just as focused on the trends for children as they are for women. Wash the area with soapy water, and then hold an ice cube on the infected area for a few minutes. If you pull out a stinger instead of scraping it off more venom is apt to enter your child’s body.
*Watch your child for an allergic reaction. If your child begins having difficulty breathing or is swelling in his mouth or neck area or develops a rash around the sting area you should seek medical attention.

Cleaning Tip:
Add sparkle to your dishes in your automatic dishwasher by doing the following: Run the dishwasher on the regular cycle without soap. When the machine has filled with water, open the door and add a cup of white vinegar. Finish the cycle. This helps to remove deposits in the pipes.

Organizing Tip:
Wash the dishes and wipe the counters after each meal. No matter how large or small the meal or how tired and in a hurry you are, do the dishes. Make leaving your kitchen clean as important a priority as getting dressed for work. You never know when you will have unexpected guests.

Great books about boys for boys
A Bad Case of Tattle Tongue by Julia Cook.
No one likes Josh the Tattler because he tattles way too much. A low-flow shower-head generally will pay for itself in energy saved within four months.
Time Saving Tip: When you see a great toy on sale, buy several and sock them away for your child to give to friends at birthday parties throughout the year.
Financial Tip: Dump Expensive Funds-Many people are smart enough to own no-load mutual funds, but many still throw away money by not paying attention to the annual expense ratio. That's something every fund charges you, but it's easy to miss because it doesn't show up on your statements as a line-item fee. Instead it's subtracted from your fund's performance behind the scenes. The return you see on your statement is after the expense ratio has been deducted from the fund's gross return. The average expense ratio for managed stock funds is 1.5 percent. Smart market watchers tell us we'll be lucky if stocks' long-term gains average 8 percent a year. So if your fund has a gross return of 8 percent and it shaves off 1.5 percent for expenses, you're left with just a 6.5 percent return. Fees have swallowed up more than 18 percent of your funds' return! That's why it's smart to buy index funds or exchange traded funds (ETFs). With annual expense ratios of just 0.2 percent or less, you're going to hold on to a lot more of your returns.

Organic gardening with your children

Organic gardening is a completely natural way to garden. It doesn't involve nasty chemicals or weed killing sprays. Nature takes care of itself, it has a way of dealing with the typical pests without human intervention. Garden crops can produce just as well without the use of fertilizers. Try companion planting, basil helps deter many pests that affect tomatoes and peppers.
Get rid of the garden pests, safely yet effectively with Pepper Soap:
Blend four jalapeno peppers and three or four cloves of garlic in a blender or food processor with four cups of water. Place this mixture in another container, and stir in one teaspoon of vegetable oil soap. Let this homemade insecticide set for about twenty-four hours, and strain it through cheesecloth or a wire mesh strainer before pouring it into a sprayer and spraying it on bug-ridden garden plants. Be sure and spray the undersides of foliage, and reapply this homemade insecticide after it rains.
Children are natural gardeners. They're curious, like to learn by doing, and love to play in the dirt. So roll up your sleeves put on some old cloths and get ready to explore, learn and educate together.
While gardening, a child can experience the satisfaction that comes from caring for something over time and observe the cycle of life firsthand.
Children as young as two years old are capable of helping with gardening tasks such as digging and watering. Whereas, older child can plan, plant and take care of their own garden area.
Kids like easy, fast and reliability. Here are a few suggestions:
Sunflower
Sunflowers are an easy flower for kids to grow. They don't require much attention. They just require full sun and protection from high winds. They will need lots of water especially early on.
Lettuce
A quick and reliable crop to give the child fast results, and also a good way to interest kids in salads. Lettuce likes part shade; keep soil moist especially during the first two weeks.
Snow peas
A quick-growing early crop, and fun for kids to eat right off the vine. Peas prefer cooler, partially shaded locations in the garden.
Cherry tomatoes
Plant in full sun and use seedlings rather than planting from seed. Put in a 2' stake alongside each seedling; they need to be tied loosely to stakes as they get taller. Cherry tomatoes can also be grown in containers.
A few tips:
-Garden for short periods of time; changing activities frequently keeps kids engaged.
-Plant vegetables your child likes to eat.
If your child's first experience with gardening is fun and successful, they are likely to develop a green thumb that will stay with them for life.
* Is it worth buying fruits and vegetables that are organic? We realize as adults how difficult it is to learn a new language after our youth, but we keep reading that it is the perfect time for our own children to begin the language learning!
Time & Newsweek ran feature articles years ago about the window of opportunity for second language learning being between birth and ten years old. Experts agree that while a child is learning one word for an item, it is just as easy for his young brain to learn a second word for the same item.
Several studies out of York University show that children who receive instruction in two languages score twice as high on language tests than their monolingual peers. These studies also prove that these bilingual children read sooner and demonstrate advanced problem solving capabilities. (Dr. Ellen Bialystok, 2001)
Finding a fun and easy way to bring the language learning into your daily routine is often the challenge. Once-a-week classes just aren’t enough. The key is to find multimedia products that use a bilingual format for introducing the language to children ages birth – ten that encourage interaction. Find CDs for the many car moments you share and DVDs that incorporate your children’s various learning styles.
Experts agree that the two languages should be presented in a bilingual format for young children who are still acquiring skills in their native language. Meaning the new language should be presented in a seamless bilingual format alongside the child’s native language. This allows for better retention, higher self esteem and fun for the entire family as they learn together!
This year give the gift of a second language journey that is easy and fun for you and your children. Sing, dance and play together as you enjoy learning each new word on the path to becoming bilingual. Prepare your child for successful travel through our very global society and for what is sure to be a very diverse future.
About the Author: Beth Butler is the founder of the Boca Beth Program – a fun bilingual product line that makes it easy to introduce Spanish to young children. What a deal!

This week's Mom Tips

Cleaning Tip:
Clean those dirty and dander filled stuffed animals by placing them in a pillowcase, tie the top and wash them in the washing machine.
Financial Tip:
Save hundreds of dollars by cooking meals at home and packing lunches. Not only is this the most affordable way to feed your family
but also the healthiest way to satisfy your hunger.
Green Tip:
Purchase reusable bags for grocery shopping. It takes 20 to 1,000 years for a plastic bag to break down in the environment and paper
is bulkier than plastic, taking up more landfill space. Like plastic, it does not breakdown rapidly. Grocery Stores like Hannaford
offers attractive reusable bags for only $2 and also credits you for each recyclable bag you use. They also recycle your used plastic
bags. Check with your grocer to see what programs they offer. Check out Get hip get green for stylish reusable bags.
http://www.gethipgetgreen.com/bag02.htm
Time Saving Tip:
Pay Your Bills Electronically. Save time (and stamp money) by not writing out and mailing checks.

Polymer Clay Craft
Colorful and Fun:
Polymer clay can be molded, sliced, rolled and baked to become anything with the help of your child’s imagination. When the package is opened, the clay may feel hard; just have your child knead it and roll it in their hands. Polymer clay stretches as you work with it. The end result is always a surprise.
Let’s make a Bull’s Eye button together:

You will need:
Polymer clay in 2 colors
Plastic Knife
Imagination

Have your child roll a piece of clay into a log between their palms. Lets say about 3” long but it can be any length. Now take the second color clay and using a rolling pin, flatten clay into a sheet; trim to form a rectangle (the length should be the same as the log). Lay the long on the rectangular sheet, then roll together so the sheet wraps around the log.
Your child will now roll this formed log between their palms. Use the plastic knife to cut into slices. Poke 2 even holes in the center with a toothpick.
Parents will need to cook the buttons or whatever clay creation your child’s imagination has formed; Place all pieces on a cookie sheet that is lined with parchment paper. Bake in the over at 275 degrees for 6-15 minutes, or according to package directions.
Read more from Kids Trends Weekly Magazine"

v 1 issue 20: Little Miss...

Little Miss...

This issue is for your little miss creative, little miss prepster, little miss girly girl, or any little miss. Purchase a term life insurance policy to protect those who rely on you.
Green tip:
Avoid creating trash wherever possible: when ordering food, avoid receiving any unnecessary plastic utensils, straws, etc. (ask in advance), buy ice cream in a cone instead of a cup, don't accept "free" promotional products, buy products with the least amount of packaging, etc. Every little bit of trash avoided does make a difference!
Cleaning tip:
Have a coffee stain? Heat the area with a hot wet cloth then dab the area with white vinegar. Rinse well with water and then use a white paper towel to suck up the water. Repeat until the stain is removed. Dry well with a blow dryer or fan.

Time saving tip:
Clean with one product at a time and a roll of paper towels. By doing all the mirrors or dusting at one time and not switching between cleaning products you will actually save time. Switching between tasks can take longer than completing the same task in quick succession.

Recession Proof Party Ideas Part 2
PART TWO: THE CARNIVAL

Some parents spend thousands of dollars on their kids' birthday parties, while a majority spend somewhere between $250 and $750. Are these over the top parties really more fun for the kids than say a party within a smaller budget? Both provide many delights and thrills for the kids.
Lisa broke down the elements of a "Carnival" themed party; one that would cost parents $5000 and one that would cost $250. Now, with the difference in cost, how could these parties be at all similar? Well, take a look. They're definitely more similar than different!
FIRST, LET'S GO OVER THE TOP:
Carnival Party on $5000 for 25 kids
Invitations:
The invitations would be custom-designed by a stationary store and professionally printed ($150) and hand-delivered to each party guest by a professional clown ($150).
Decorations:
Professional balloon arches would greet the guests as they entered the carnival ($200×3). Besides the balloon arches, bunches of helium balloons would decorate the entire party area ($400). A big top tent ($350) would be rented for the entertainment to take place under. The party would have rented tables, linens, and table ware that matched the carnival theme ($500).

Activities:
Upon entering the party, the children would be given a carnival knapsack with a t-shirt and cap with their names monogrammed on each ($15×25). The kids would wear their t-shirts and caps at the party, and the knapsacks will capture their prizes from the carnival games. The knapsack ($10×25) will also hold an empty popcorn box and a string of booth tickets for the games.
Ten professional carnival game booths ($500) would be rented and staffed by professional clowns. Game booths could include: Ring Toss, Duck Pond, Balloon Darts, NBA Hoops, Crazy Ball, Coin Pitch, Tin Can Alley, Plinko, Large Hoopla, and Milk Toss. When the kids win a game, they are given a prize. These can include pencils, bouncing balls, yo-yos, bubbles, plastic sunglasses, etc.

A bouncing carnival inflatable ($200) and dunking tank ($150) would be additional fun activities.

Under the big top, an additional clown ($150) would entertain kids with her routine, along with a juggler ($150) and a stilt-walker ($150).
Food:
A hot dog vendor ($150), Sno-Cone Machine ($150), and popcorn vendor ($150) would all be available for the kids to use their tickets to buy their birthday lunch. The kids will be able to enjoy their food at the party tables. A fancy cake ($75) would be made for the party by a professional bakery. An ice cream sundae cart ($150) would be available to accompany the cake.
Goody Bags:
Kids would take home the monogrammed knapsack filled with prizes from the games, the t-shirt, cap, a fancy, over-sized lollipop ($5 x 25), and their own mini-clown costume, with a red nose, clown collar, and face makeup ($5 x 25).

NOW, LET'S SPEND $25 PER KID ATTENDING:
Carnival Party on $250 for 25 kids

Invitations:
The invitation would be hand-made by printing carnival tickets off of the computer with all pertinent details. These invitations can either be hand-delivered by your child at school and/or mailed to the guests ($10).
Decorations:
Purchase a helium balloon tank ($30) and blow up balloons ($20) on your own for the party. Make one large balloon arch on your own, and/or have balloons located all over the carnival party area. A few carnival Mylar balloons would be a very special decoration to attach to the birthday kid's chair.

Purchase streamers ($10) in an array of bright, primary colors and have them bunched heavily together from the ceiling, when the kids enter the carnival they can walk through the streamers to the fun.

For the big top, hang a very large sheet over four standing poles to create the affect.

Purchase primary colors of table ware and set the table. Over the party table, hang a mock trapeze ($3) with a stuffed Monkey ($2) on it for added décor.

Activities:

Upon entering the party, hire a favorite babysitter who is creative with paint ($40) to be on hand to paint little carnival animals on the guests' faces.

From there, the kids would receive an empty popcorn box and a string of tickets to use at the different activity booths.

Turn very large appliance boxes into carnival booths for the activities. Ask for parent volunteers to run the various booths, and hand out prizes. The prizes ($25) can be little toys found at a Dollar Store, i.e. spinning tops, bouncy balls, plastic animals, Pop Rock candy, etc. At the booths, the following activities could be organized using stuff that you have around the house:

* Fishing Game: Mock up a fishing pole with a paper clip on the end and have the kids throw the line over the box where the adult clips on a prize that the kids reel in.
* Hula Hoop Throw: Have the kids throw a ball through hula hoops to win a prize.
* Have a wading pool on hand with little Rubber Ducky toys floating. Little ones can pick up a rubber ducky, look for a number on the bottom, and receive a prize that correlates to the number.
* Balloon Darts: Blow up balloons and have them taped to a cardboard box. Have kids throw darts to see how many they can break. Make sure to have additional balloons as each one ones pop away.
* Guess the number of marbles in a jar.
* Enjoy a Water Balloon Toss. Have kids pair off in two's and start to throw water balloons to one another. After each successful toss, have them take one step back and continue with the toss. The last team still throwing the water balloon wins.
Under the big top, have an additional adult volunteer or the babysitter you hired for face painting, entertain kids with a silly routine.
Food:
Have a traditional BBQ with hot dogs and hamburgers ($40), and put out bowls of peanuts and popcorn. Have Cracker Jack boxes, animal crackers, and cotton candy bags lining the party table for additional treats ($10).
Make a carnival birthday cake yourself or a batch of cupcakes that the kids can decorate as an additional activity ($10). You could also host the kids making sundaes by providing three flavors of ice cream, chocolate sauce, peanuts, and cherries as another party activity.

Goody Bags:
Kids can take home a bright-colored cup filled with the prizes they won from the games, as well as extra boxes of Cracker Jacks and animal crackers ($2). Make sure to put the kids' names on the cups as a personal touch.

Where are the savings? (Money Saving Tips for Throwing Kids' Parties)
1. Make your own invitations, decorations, and games/activities.
2. Hire a babysitter or ask family and friends to provide the entertainment.
3. Make your own food and birthday cake.
4. Keep the cost of prizes and goodies reasonable.
5. Keep the number of your guests within reason.

These tips work for any theme for your kids' next party. Depending on their age and abilities your child should be able to assist you each day with a few chores. Before you know it, you will be well on your way to keeping an organized home.
We have listed chores that your kids should be able to help with:
1 Make the bed every day! Even your 2 year old can help you do this (though they wont do a great job they will learn that making the bed each day is part of their routine which will help you when they are older).
2 If you do one load of laundry a day it wont become so overwhelming on the weekends. Have your older child help separate the laundry by colors.
3 Kitchen cleanup. Kids as young as 4 should be able to scrape their plate and put it on the counter.
4 Clean up the living room each evening prior to bed time. Make the kids pick up their toys and put them in their rooms prior to heading to bed.
5 Start a nighttime routine for your family. Include in this time picking up the house of their toys and clothes, putting their dirty clothes in the laundry and setting out their clothes for the next day.
6 Set a clean up time in the evening when everyone picks up their space. Show your kids exactly how you want their room picked up…label bins with photos so that your kids know what should go in them (or words for older kids who can read).
7 Reduce plastic toy buildup. When going through fast food drive-thru’s ask them not to include they toy. For birthdays and holidays ask for gift certificates to activities instead of toys.
8 Stuffed animals must go! They not only can cause health problems due to buildup of dander and more but they cause massive clutter chaos. For those favorite stuffed animals consider a hammock for them up near the ceiling or Boon’s stuffed animal holder is a great ‘pillow’ that keeps them contained.
9 Purchase a rolling under bed basket/bin. This will make pick-up easy for the kids and easy on your eyes!
10 Consider investing in a ‘do it yourself’ custom closet like those from Easy Closets. They make storage of clothes, toys, books, movies, games and stuffed animals easy and look fantastic!

This week's mom tips

Cleaning Tip:
To remove water spots on stainless steel, rub area with a clean, soft cloth dampened with white vinegar. Then wipe dry to avoid spots.

Time Saving Tip:
No time to read? Find the book you want to read on tape and listen in the car, while cleaning the house or walking. Save money by borrowing audio books from your local library.

Financial Tip:
More than 20 percent of 401(k) plan participants don't invest enough to get the maximum company matching contribution. How much you have to invest to get the employer match and how much your employer will match varies. Ask your HR department or the plan administrator how much you need to invest to get the maximum company match. Then change your contribution level to qualify for this incredible benefit. If your spouse has a better policy, consider putting more money in their 401 (k) plan.

Green Tip:
Use soy candles. Soy candles are made from a renewable resource, and are completely biodegradable. They emit no carcinogens, and burn much cleaner than paraffin-based candles. And soy products support farmers!
Read more from Kids Trends Weekly Magazine"

v 1 issue 18: Spring has Sprung

Spring is here and flowers are beginning to bloom. In one e-mail, you'll get short briefs of the day's top stories and weather, and you can request stories on specific topics of interest.

Financial Tip:
Try store brands at the grocery store...not only will you save but most of the store brands taste the same as the name brand (and some even taste better!).

Shape up those buns
It’s time to shape up those buns for the upcoming shorts and bathing suit season. Get started now and you will have a rockin’ rear by the time you have to flaunt it in a swimsuit. By adding weight to each of these exercises you are burning more calories! Our favorite butt exercises are:

Squat and press – Use dumbbells and position over shoulders, squat down and when you raise lift the dumbbells straight up. Repeat.

Lunges – Reverse lunges, walking lunges as well as side to side lunges are our favorite.
A reverse lunge simply means that you step backwards for the lunge. Use small weights in your hands for a greater burn (and to burn more calories). Switch legs and repeat.
A walking lunge simply means you are stepping forward one leg at a time and lowering your knee to the floor (well, almost the floor) then join legs and step forward with your opposite leg. Remember to hold weights in your hands for a better workout.
A side lunge with interior raises will really make you feel the burn. For this one stand with legs far apart and you are going to lunge from side to side. Upon side lunge lift your dumbbells up straight in front of you until you reach eye level. Move side to side while continually lifting arms.

Step ups – Step up to a platform while holding hand weights. Go slow and use a higher step/bench as you get stronger. Be careful…don’t bend your knee greater than 90 degrees. Repeat.

Drum roll please...if you want a booty like Jessica Beil (if you aren’t sure what her butt looks like be sure to do a google search to check it out!) this is the best exercise move:
Deadlifts – Form is very important here and if you have back problems don’t attempt them. Stand holding a pair of dumbbells with your arms at your sides (knees slightly bent). Keep your arms straight and slowly bend at your hip and lower the weights as far as you can without rounding your back (keep that back straight!!), now squeeze and lift yourself up… be sure not to use your back. Repeat.

Do each of the above exercises 2 sets of 10 reps each to sculpt a better butt for summer.
Read more from Kids Trends Weekly Magazine"

v 1 issue 17: The Luck of the Irish

St. Patrick's day is coming and it is time to celebrate with all things green!

Cover by Shannon Stewart

Lovin' Green

1 You can sit on it, lay or just lounge on it! It's been on the lips of talk show hosts, financial analysts, news reporters and anchors since November. And while America is not technically in a recession, consumers are worried their dollar won't go as far as they'd like and are holding onto their purse strings tightly.
But, that doesn't change the fact that birthday parties are still a big business. Kids don't care that the economy is taking a downturn, so how is mom and dad supposed to throw a bash on a shoestring budget? Party-planning expert Lisa Kothari, author of "Dear Peppers and Pollywogs...What Parents Want to Know About Planning Their Kids' Parties" has gathered her tricks and tips for a three-part series on recession-proof children's parties.

PART ONE: THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX

"Parents can easily throw a fun and impressive kid's party on a budget if they just get a little creative with the theme," says Kothari. "Think about what your kids really like to do, what activities really make them happy. Then, build-out a few other themed ideas and before you know it, you'll have yourself a successful party."

A Messy Party!

What's a perfectly easy, fun, budget-friendly toddler to four-year-old party theme? Throw a Messy Party. Kids love to make a mess, so why not give in and make a whole party out of the theme! If it appeals, let's get down to the nitty gritty ideas that will bring the mess alive:
Send off invitations that are hand-stamped with little hand prints inviting kids to get ready to "Make a Mess!" Add all of the details.
Definitely buy balloons and streamers, but make a mess out of them; hang them all over the place in no set pattern.
For the activities, this would be a very good party to hold outdoors where clean-up will not be a problem. Set up 3-4 mini-tables where the kids can enjoy making a mess.
Have the kids paint pictures with chocolate. Yummy!
Place bowls of frosting, sprinkles, and candy decorations on another table with pre-made sugar cookies and let the kids decorate them on their own.
On another table set out paint, roller brushes, and butcher paper for the kids to make fantastic creations.
Play Dough and modeling clay placed on another table could be another opportunity to make messy creations to take home.
Have a bunch of stamps and water-soluble ink out and have the kids stamp their arms and legs all over and stamp one another!
Place a pile of dirt in one area of the yard and have the kids make dirt creations using twigs, rocks, and other natural elements.
Make a traditional round cake, ice with vanilla frosting and then drizzle different colors of icing into your own messy masterpiece. Add candy toppings as an added bonus.
Send them home stamped-up with their messy creations, their chocolate picture, Play Dough creations, and a cellophane bag of frosted cookies (ones that you made before the party that look pretty and yummy).

Make-Your-Own Outrageous Cookie Concoctions!
"Outrageous" is the key word here! A fabulous budget-friendly party idea that is super simple to put together with little time is to invite your kid's party guests to be "Silly Cookie Bakers" for an afternoon. Before the party begins, make up a simple batch of cookie dough -- these days, you can even buy the ready-made dough if you prefer to save even more time. Provide each kid with their own bowl of cookie dough, and this is where it gets interesting! Simply open your refrigerator door and cupboards and start pulling out the condiments.

Here's a good starter list:

1. Ketchup
2. Mustard
3. Chocolate Syrup
4. Ranch Dressing
5. Steak Sauce
6. Cherries
7. Yogurt
8. Cheese
9. Peanut Butter
10. Balsamic Vinegar
11. Jam
12. Pesto Sauce
13. Tomato Sauce
14. Relish

Whatever condiments you have sitting around your kitchen, pull them out and have them on the table with the kids and their bowls of cookie dough. Now the kids can go to town making up their very own cookie concoctions. They will have a blast choosing what they want to add and how much. They can be as yummy or gross as they want to be! (This is great for a party with both boys and girls -- the boys will get a kick out of making the cookies as gross as they can be!)When they are done, place on trays and bake 'em up... Yummm?
When they come out and have cooled, the kids can frost and place candy sprinkles on them. Wrap each of the kid's cookies up in colored cellophane for their take home goody.
One note: you may want to warn the kids' parents that these cookies are strictly for their kids' enjoyment!!

For more of Lisa Kothari's party etiquette advice, check out her recently-released Dear Peppers and Pollywogs...What Parents Want to Know About Planning Their Kids' Parties, available at Amazon.com for $9.95. Use dishwasher detergent in your white loads to keep the whites super bright. 2. If you get a grease or oil stain, sprinkle cornstarch on the spot, allow to stand for a few minutes and then brush off and wash as normal. 3. For blood stains, spot treat with hydrogen peroxide and then wash as normal.
Green Tip: Summer's heating up, and we've got a refreshing idea that'll put your empty milk and soda bottles to good use! Fill your empty bottles with tap water, freeze, and use them to keep things cool on your next picnic.
Financial Tip: Believe it or not, being frugal can be fun. Visit Mommysavers.com to learn when your favorite stores (like Old Navy, Gap and tons more) do their markdowns, and save a fortune on this year's back-to-school shopping.
Parenting Tip: Now is the perfect time to teach your kids the value of money, the reward of hard work, and the importance of giving. Having a family yard sale is just the way to do it! This is what you'll need to do: 1. Set aside a day to help your children clean out their closets. 2. Help your children identify outgrown and unused items and then help them to decide which items should be sold, and which items should be donated. 3. Allow your children to help you make the donation, and organize the yard sale. (Tip: if you have older children, counting change at the yard sale makes for a great math lesson!) 4. Reward your child's generosity and hard work with the opportunity to use their yard sale earnings for new toys or school supplies.
<a href="http://www.kidstrendsweekl
